The Athenaeum Library, Melbourne CBD
The Athenaeum Library began as the Melbourne Mechanics' Institution in 1839, dedicated to providing education and a library for members. It acquired its first dedicated building in 1842 on Collins Street and expanded over time, with later additions including a theatre and a new facade in the 1880s. Today, it continues as a subscription library in Melbourne, still housed in its historic building and serving a similar cultural purpose as it did at its founding.

The restoration and stabilisation of the Library ceiling were undertaken with care and precision, allowing this historic space to continue serving the community for years ahead.
